Classic Office & Guest Room Reveal

Classic Office & Guest Room Reveal

Editor’s Note: This post is sponsored as I was sent several complimentary items for the room and all are marked as “c/o” throughout the post. All editorial and opinions are my own.So excited to reveal our home office today! While this room primarily serves as my office for Classic Bride blog, it serves several other purposes, too: it’s an extra guest room, a second playroom for W, a spot to do yoga, a craft room and it’s also become our go-to room for movie nights! Clearly, we get a ton of use out of this room which is great and it’s also the reason I decided to do a re-design. Shouldn’t a room that you spend so much time in be a room that you find beautiful and inspiring?

For this room re-design, we already had most of the key components so it was mostly just about fluffing the room up to make it feel more polished and complete. Since it’s a space that really feels like mine, I felt free to unleash my girly side and embrace cheerful and pretty pastels which I’ve tried to avoid in other rooms since I’m now living with two guys. 😉 I kept to my signature preppy style and indulged my love for chinoiserie by adding a sprinkling of the fun style here and there with foo dogs, a peacock chair, a garden stool and a classic pagoda detail. My desk is always accumulating items so to avoid a constantly messy look, I love the organization that my new sleek monogrammed acrylic tray (c/o) by Mad for Monograms lends. It’s the perfect catch-all for my date book, cards and my treasured foo dogs that I found at a flea market in Lyon, France!

Many years ago, we inherited an old twin bed from J’s family and while we’ve since outfitted our primary guest room with a larger bed, we chose to hang onto the twin because we found it was nice to have an additional sleep space for extra guests or just as an additional place to lounge. Since we use the bed quite a bit during movie nights, we decided it was time to upgrade to a quality latex mattress. J&I treated ourselves to a latex King a few years ago for our master bedroom and our sleep lives improved about 500%. We are the biggest fans of latex so I honestly didn’t even have to think twice about doing research on what type of bed to order this time around. I had heard wonderful things about Sleep on Latex and we couldn’t be more happy with our Pure Green™ Natural Latex Mattress (c/o) from the company. We chose the 9″ thickness and medium firmness and it has proven to be the comfiest bed and has made movie nights so much nicer! Since having W, I’ve become a much lighter sleeper (any other moms experience that??) so on those nights that I toss and turn, I often just come in the office to sleep. I’ve fallen asleep on the new mattress several times now and the way it contours and supports your body is amazing – it’s like you’re lying on a supportive cloud. I’m also excited to have our guests experience the wonders of latex – I wouldn’t be surprised if after their visit, they return home and order a new mattress! I also just have to mention how easy it was to order from Sleep on Latex – the mattress arrived on our doorstep within days and it was rolled up in a tidy box which made it much easier for us to carry upstairs. Once we unwrapped it, the mattress popped right into form and was ready to go. Easy peasy!

I always love including original art in a space as I find that it creates a sense of movement and breathes life into a room. That’s exactly what I feel the vibrant Bermuda Palms original painting (c/o) by Katy Garry does for this space. I love the spectrum of cool, soft blues and the way it drops hints of a tropical vacation. Katy specializes in fun, preppy modern art and she does some amazing custom work including murals for nurseries – so cool!
On our last family vacation to the South Shore, our beach house neighbors were getting rid of the most fabulous peacock chair. It was just sitting all lonely on their gravel drive with a “free” sign taped to it. My eyes were undoubtedly as wide as saucers when I spotted it and J didn’t hesitate to help load it into our already-packed SUV. I’m so glad we found this fun piece and to make it feel more custom, I asked the most talented Cheryl, of Pillow Loft Home Decor, to create a cushion made of classic striped ticking (c/o). I love how the cushion gives a more buttoned-up feel to the otherwise bohemian chair. And I think the custom bunny pillow (c/o) (with ticking backing and piping!) from Studio Tullia pairs beautifully with the cushion! I wanted to inject a little playfulness because the peacock chair is a really fun piece and the “painted” bunnies on the pillow do just that!

I wanted to pick out a small table to coordinate with the chair and this Safavieh Gateless Mist Chinoiserie Garden Stool (c/o) from Decor Market couldn’t fit the bill better! It lends the perfect feel of polished chinoiserie and is just the right size to keep my summer reading and a coffee – bliss!

How cute is this eyeglass case (c/o) by Marina’s Closet? I especially love how the back is made of the softest blue suede.

Writing personal notes and thank yous is an etiquette practice my mother instilled in me since second grade and I’m so thankful that she did so. I find handwritten correspondence so special and important in this age of the smartphone and I always make it a priority to source beautiful stationery. These flat printed Julie Woods notecards (c/o) from Pickett’s Press strike the perfect balance of sweetness and simplicity and the quality is unparalleled. Shop the full selection of notecards here and make sure to browse through the jaw-dropping selection of wedding stationery, too!

To borrow a quote from one of my husband’s favorite movies, “that rug really tie[s] the room together.” Jokes aside, I am just obsessed with the rug we found for this room and The Dude’s totally right – this rug ties it all together beautifully! For this room, I knew I wanted something aesthetically subtle yet classic and I also wanted it to be organic/eco-friendly and texturally soft since W would be crawling and playing on it. The rugs from Hook & Loom hit all of these points beautifully. I just love the company’s mission statement: “to make beautiful, comfortable, durable, safe rugs without harming the Earth.” Hook & Loom uses no dyes or chemicals and they place a strong emphasis on creating a safe and fair working environment for their employees which is so important to consider when making a bigger purchase. I went with the Shelbourne Eco Cotton Rug in Natural/White (c/o) and I love the soft colors and simple design. The rug is hand woven from freshly spun 100% recycled fiber. And my favorite part is that when the rug gets dirty, I can pop it in the washer and tumble dry it right at home! Eco-friendliness at its best!

I don’t know about you but my rugs are always slip-sliding around and it drives me nuts so I decided to order a rug pad to go along with our rug. I chose the RugPro pad (c/o) from RugPadUSA.com and it has made such a difference. It secures the rug perfectly in place and is composed of a thin layer of felt with a solid natural rubber backing. The two materials work in tandem with the felt preventing the rug from shifting or buckling and the rubber keeping the rug firmly anchored to the floor. To give the room a truly personal touch, I turned to framed & matted to expertly custom frame several special images as well as a print (shown below) I purchased on my last visit to Cinque Terre. I was amazed at how easy and fast the whole process was – after measuring my photos and print, I just input the measurements on framed & matted’s site, chose the type of matting and about a week later, the gorgeous frames were on my doorstep! They arrived flawless and all I had to do was unpack them and insert my photos and print. Before ordering, I requested a few mat color samples be sent to me so I could be sure I was truly selecting the right colors. They arrived in days and were true to the colors shown online but seeing them in person helped me to feel more confident in my choices. I just love how the small family gallery wall turned out in the office and the Cinque Terre print looks more stunning than I ever thought possible. It’s so nice to be surrounded by great memories in gorgeous frames!

To keep the vacation set of mind strong, the two prints from Sara Fitz (c/o) are a lovely homage to lazy summer days on Nantucket. And I love how they perfectly frame the window! I chose the Polka Dot Swimsuit Art Print (c/o) & Nantucket Basket Closed Art Print (c/o) but you can shop all the prints here and be sure to check out their amazing wedding collection, as well. Some of the prettiest wedding stationery out there!

To counter the industrial feel of my metal tripod lamp (which is actually a true camera tripod I found in Germany and had converted to a lamp!), I chose a very traditional table lamp in blues and whites that I just love to pieces. The Safavieh Paige Jar Lamp (c/o) from Decor Market is so classic which makes it such a versatile piece. I can easily see us using this lamp in the living room or dining room in years to come – great investment piece!

You know I love a good detail and the stunning pagoda-style tissue box cover (c/o) by Simply Sandra Designs is certainly that! The attention to detail is exquisite and the subtle texture provided by the classic pique fabric is so classic. I just can’t say enough positive things about the craftsmanship of this little cover and I love how the colors tie in beautifully with the room. Do check Sandra’s other goods – she has an amazing line that includes perfect gifts for bridesmaids!

Awhile ago, I had noticed that the girls at Southern Weddings had the most adorable monogram decals on the back of their office chairs and after a little internet sleuthing, I found that the decals were from Dixieland Monogram. I promptly ordered my own monogram decal (c/o) in the prettiest powder blue color and I am just smitten with the results! A friend even thought that I had custom ordered the chair that way (because it looks so amazing!!). If you’re looking to personalize your office chair, these are the cutest and boast wonderful quality, too. Mine is the 6 inch style.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of my office (and sometimes guest room)! It is such a pleasure to work in this space and feel inspired every day!

Where is that amazing elephant from? It’s ringing some vague memory of mine – like a kids book?

Hi Sara – Thanks, a friend gifted the elephant to me years ago. I think she bought it in Belgium but I don’t know of any tie to a children’s book. If you happen to remember the book, I’d love to know! xo
